Orientalist Leonid Tsukanov shared with Izvestia the opinion that a new escalation of the conflict in the Middle East is quite possible, and the settlement process risks "rolling back six months." “Probably, in the coming days, the Cairo-Doha negotiation format will still remain in the same form, but if Israel decides to consolidate the initial successes by advancing ground units, the situation with the settlement may roll back at least six months,” the expert believes. Hamas officials said the group would not compromise and would continue its war with Israel. Izzat al-Rishk, a member of the political bureau of the movement, stressed that Netanyahu’s decision to return to war was tantamount to “sacrificing Israeli prisoners and imposing a death sentence on them.” Israel has vowed to act against Hamas with “increasing military intensity.” Moscow, in turn, calls on the parties to return to the negotiation process aimed at developing a mutually acceptable compromise solution to the problem of detained persons. According to the Russian side, this will ensure sustainable normalization of the situation in the Gaza Strip. Previously, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Israel’s decision to launch strikes against Hamas targets in Gaza.
