📝 Summary

Russia stands for the priority release of detained in the Gaza Strip Russian Alexander Trufanov and native of Donbass Maxim Kharkin, reported in the Ministry of foreign Affairs.

This issue was discussed in a telephone conversation between the deputy head of the department Mikhail Bogdanov and the deputy chairman of the Palestinian political bureau of Hamas Musa Abu-Marzuk. The parties also noted the importance of implementing the ceasefire agreement in the Palestinian enclave and the need to provide humanitarian assistance to its residents. The Russian side reaffirmed its interest in the liberation of Trufanov and Kharkin, and expressed its readiness to support efforts to achieve national accord in Palestine in order to resolve the problem related to the future of this territory as soon as possible. Alexander Trufanov previously served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). He is the son of Russian citizen Elena Trufanova, who was released last November thanks to the efforts of Russian diplomats and the military. Russian Ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov on January 21 reported that, according to reports, Trufanov was injured. The head of the Russian diplomatic mission called the condition “satisfactory, but not positive.” On January 17, Israel confirmed the signing of an agreement with Hamas, which envisages the release of hostages and the cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip. Most of the Israeli hostages that Hamas is supposed to hand over as part of the cease-fire in Gaza are still alive, according to a report by Hamas that a second group of Israelis held in Gaza will be released on January 25.
