Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Yaroslav Dronov (SHAMAN) said that the refusal of Rospatent to register the brand “I am Russian” gives a guarantee that the title of his song will not get to anyone.
“I hope that <...> every person in our country will know that no one can register and use the words “I am Russian” sacred for our people,” the singer told RIA Novosti. SHAMAN explained that he submitted to Rospatent documents for brand registration to draw attention to the fact that a huge number of entrepreneurs and his detractors are trying to use the phrase “I am Russian” to sell their products, including of dubious quality. It can also be alcohol or adult toys. The singer added that he initially understood the impossibility of registering the brand “I am Russian” and deliberately took certain risks. Two applications to Rospatent for registration of the trademark "I am Russian" Dronov filed on October 12, 2024. The singer under this name planned to produce alcoholic beverages and various cosmetics. The Call of the People movement was strongly opposed. Activists appealed to the state Duma with a request to prepare a bill prohibiting the registration and use of the names of nations and state or religious symbols on goods “in a defamatory or offensive context.”.
