The First Republican Clinical Hospital performed the first kidney transplantation in the history of Udmurtia to a patient with chronic renal failure. This is reported by the press service of the regional Ministry of Health. This is the result of great efforts of the Ministry of Health of Udmurtia, the 1RKB team, the medical community and a huge preparatory work that lasted more than a year. A truly unique operation. This program will help save the lives of dozens of people, and will give people the opportunity to receive assistance in our republic, and not to go to the federal center for it, commented the head of Udmurtia Alexander Brechalov. In carrying out the first operation, specialists were assisted by colleagues from the NMIC of transplantology and artificial organs named after academician V. I. Shumakov of the Ministry of Health of Russia. The most complex operation involved nine specialists, it lasted more than two hours. The 37-year-old patient had been on dialysis for several years. He has now been transferred to the office and is feeling well. The decision to open a transplant program in Udmurtia was made in 2023. At the same time, large-scale preparation began: implementation of methodological recommendations, improvement of technical equipment of the surgical department in the First Republican Clinical Hospital, training of specialists. “For more than a year we have been preparing for our own transplant program, and a great deal of work has been done. For the health of Udmurtia, this is a huge step forward. Kidney transplantation is a complex, high-tech, but vital operation that will help save the lives of many patients. Despite the fact that we are still at the very beginning of the journey, I believe that we have reached a qualitatively new level so that residents of Udmurtia could receive such complex medical care within the republic, said Sergey Bagin, Minister of Health of the Republic. In 2025, doctors 1 RKB plan to carry out six transplants.
