The premiere of the play “Petrograd – Leningrad” was presented at the Kamburova Theatre

"You're back here, so swallow the fish oil of the Leningrad river lamps." You can feel the atmosphere of the city on the Neva River in the early twentieth century at the Elena Kamburova Theatre. There was the premiere of the play “Petrograd – Leningrad”. Based on the music of Dmitry Shostakovich, Anastasia Pavlova saw the river from Leningrad. A visual symphony in honor of the city. The play “Petrograd – Leningrad” is a manifesto of love for the Northern capital. Its author, Elena Veremenko, was born in St. Petersburg. Together with a team of artists and musicians, she created a dialogue of epochs: from revolutionary upheavals to the thaw of the 60s. “My whole family is connected to this city. Dad studied, Grandma is a blockade. When she was taken to Ladoga, they thought she probably wouldn't survive. But she survived, lived a very long life and always told me how beautiful life is, how interesting it is to live. This optimism is conveyed to all of us. And the city, when you are not there for a long time, always pulls there. I always want to go back there, – said the author of the idea Elena Veremeyenko. On the stage, the Neva is the river of time, along which artifacts of the era swim through snow and rain. Along its shores unfolds the chronicle of the XX century: revolution, repression, war and blockade. Artists, like shadows of the past, experience history through plastic and music. And all without a word. “The performance does not have a literary basis, as if it does not have dramaturgy: only musical dramaturgy is built,” explained the musical director of the Theater of Music and Poetry under the leadership of Elena Kamburova Oleg Sinkin. In this performance, Shostakovich’s music speaks more words. Oleg Sinkin chose his favorite works of the composer and together with director Ivan Popovski created the production. In this tandem and in this concept, more than 10 performances were staged. Scarlet sails in the finale are a symbol of hope. It is not about the past, but about how memory makes us stronger, how even after a while the history of the city can inspire and empower.
