Pianist Denis Matsuev performed a program dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding French composer Maurice Ravel.
In addition to the works of Ravel himself, the music of Igor Stravinsky and Sergey Prokofiev also sounded in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. The skillful performance of Prokofiev’s Second Piano Concerto took several years for Matsuev. “This is a block that I have been approaching for many, many years. I learned exactly 10 years ago on the demand of Valery Abisalovich Gergiev, Matsuev said. When he played the piece for the first time with Gergiev in Munich, it was "one of the happiest days" of his life.
