Visiting Enigma – pianist Luca Debarg

This pianist is usually spoken of as a musician who breaks all the rules and does not recognize the generally accepted norms. Perhaps that is why he is literally idolized in Russia, a country where they do not go to extremes, but live with them. After participating in the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition, at which Luke received only the IV prize, he nevertheless once and for all won the hearts of the Russian public and became our national treasure, despite his French passport and Paris residence permit. This story is somewhat reminiscent of what happened to the American Van Cliburn almost sixty years earlier. Luke honestly admits that he cannot live without Russian music and Russian literature, as well as without his favorite Russian-Parisian teacher, R. Shereshevskaya. In general, he is always frank and never hesitates to talk about what he loves and hates, while paradoxically preserving the areola of mystery.
