March 15 marks the 95th anniversary of the birth of the physicist, Nobel laureate and full holder of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" Zhores Ivanovich Alferov (1930-2019). He is the author of more than 500 scientific papers and 50 inventions. He received his first patent in 1963. On October 10, 2000, the Nobel Committee announced the names of the new laureates, including Alferov. The prize was awarded to him for his discoveries in the field of semiconductor structures, without which there would be no mobile phones, fiber optic communication, LEDs and much more. When Zhores Alferov became the director of Phystech, his widow Joffe came to him. She gave the institute things from her husband's office. And now in Phystech there is a museum of the creator and first director of the institute. Alferov was born in Belarus. My father fought in the Red Army. After demobilization, he served at the border as an officer. There he met the future bride. He had to steal it from his parents home. The family often moved from town to town. Alferov’s father worked as a factory director in Stalingrad, Siberia, and then in Minsk. At the Academic University, established by Zhores Alferov in 1999, a lyceum, a university and research laboratories coexisted under one roof. Alferov formed a system of training personnel in the latest areas of science and technology. His students work in major research centers in Russia and other countries. "
