In a telephone conversation, the parties discussed the upcoming summit of the Group of Seven (G7) on February 24, the US administration said in a statement. During the conversation, the issue of drug smuggling was raised. Trudeau also announced a visit to the United States by the head of the border service of Canada. "Prime Minister Trudeau has informed President Trump that Canada has secured a 90 percent reduction in fentanyl flow across the northern border of the United States," the statement said. The premier wrote on the social network X that Ottawa will introduce the post of “king of fentanyl” (Czar, as the West calls the special representative appointed by the authorities to control the situation in a certain area – approx. ed.). According to him, drug cartels will be added to the lists of terrorist organizations, joint forces will be formed with the United States to combat organized crime, supply of fentanyl and money laundering. Earlier, Trump, explaining the desire to impose duties on goods from Canada and Mexico, said that he was “focused on” stopping the smuggling of fentanyl into the United States, coming across the border with these countries. On February 4, Trudeau and Trump agreed to suspend Washington’s 25 percent tariffs for at least 30 days. Mexico also managed to reach an agreement with the United States about freezing restrictive trade measures for a month. According to the American leader, the introduction of duties on imported goods in the future may allow the country to completely abandon income tax. In addition, the head of the White House announced the introduction of new import duties on goods from China for a record $ 600 billion.
