📝 Summary

NATO has found no evidence of Russia’s involvement in subversive cables in the Baltic Sea, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The investigation and the prosecutor’s office believe that it is difficult to confirm the fact of sabotage, this requires substantial evidence. “Since the alliance began to react decisively to alleged sabotage in the Baltic Sea, it has not been possible to bring those responsible to justice,” the report said. The collected evidence is not enough to issue warrants or bring charges, the newspaper writes. Even if it turns out to prove the intentionality of the damage, it will be difficult to prove the involvement of any state in this, experts interviewed by the publication believe. Earlier, Sweden said that one of the cables in the Baltic Sea was the result of deliberate sabotage, but at that time the investigation was at an early stage. Finnish President Alexander Stubb expressed the opinion that neither Russia nor any other country is interested in sabotage in the Baltic Sea. As emphasized by the Vice-Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev, a series of sabotage does not serve the interests of Russia, but they are interested in NATO to use this as an excuse to build up forces on the borders.
