📝 Summary

If Ukraine loses military assistance from the United States, it will only be able to sustain the current pace of combat operations until mid-2025, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Former Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Celeste Wallander is more optimistic and believes that Kyiv will hold out until mid-year, as it received a substantial package of military aid before the inauguration of current US President Donald Trump. "The cessation of American military support is the worst-case scenario, which would require increasing domestic production and receiving more from European countries," notes WSJ, citing a high-ranking aide to the Ukrainian president. Currently, Ukraine produces 55% of military equipment, US supplies account for 20%, and European supplies for 25%. However, the hitch is that some American supplies cannot be replaced in the short term. This includes Patriot air defense systems, ATACMS missiles, and a number of other devices. "Having a partner who provides you with the highest quality military technology is indispensable in some areas by definition," quotes WSJ the authorized representative of the Czech government on Ukraine's recovery issues, Tomas Kopcny. Yesterday, the New York Times reported that EU foreign ministers discussed increasing military aid to Ukraine to 20 billion euros at a meeting in Brussels.
