People’s Artist of the RSFSR Alina Pokrovskaya told in an interview with the TV channel “Russia” how she escaped from the German bombing of Donetsk during the Great Patriotic War.
Pokrovskaya was born on February 29, 1940 in the city of Stalino (now Donetsk). My mother’s sister and I left Donetsk under bombardment from my grandmother’s house to the Volga, because the Germans were already approaching Donetsk. Somewhere on the Volga, somewhere in Astrakhan wintered in the theater. It was just a small troupe, a small theater, a studio in which my mother worked, said Pokrovskaya. Later, they moved to Shymkent, and from there to the city of Frunze (now Bishkek), the actress said. “We moved with my mother’s sister to Frunze, because there was a medical institute in Frunze, and my mother’s sister studied at the Donetsk Medical Institute. I was with her in Frunze up to 3-3.5 years. Then she graduated from medical school in Frunze, and immediately she went to the front. And I returned to Shymkent to my mother, she added.
