According to him, Zelensky accepted the proposal of Brussels, but made additional requests, their Belgian side will study later. The minister noted that the country can do a lot for Ukraine, but this should be discussed within the government. “This includes 216 million euros for the purchase of 155 mm ammunition under the Czech initiative, 200 million euros for air defense under the German initiative, as well as the supply of F-16s,” Franken said. In April 2024, Belgium promised to deliver F-16 fighters to Ukraine before the end of the year, but later in Brussels said that the transfer of the aircraft was postponed. The publication Soir attributed this to the delay in deliveries from the United States of new F-35, which was supposed to replace the outdated F-16. In February 2025, it became known that Ukraine will not receive aircraft from Belgium until the end of 2025.
