📝 Summary

The United States is considering cooperation with Gazprom in international projects with Russia, Bloomberg reported, citing Russian and European officials.

According to the agency, this step is discussed at the initial stage, at the moment it is not yet clear who is leading the negotiations and whether representatives of the administration of US President Donald Trump are involved in them. Joint projects can be aimed at Asia and Europe. In addition, according to one of the sources, Gazprom is ready to offer the United States participation in projects on the Arctic coast and offshore zones, such as the liquefied natural gas project on Sakhalin, if sanctions restricting foreign investment are lifted. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, following talks with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, noted that Europe could again begin to receive cheap Russian gas if Moscow and Washington manage to reach an agreement on energy cooperation. Gazprom also pointed out in its Telegram channel that the European Union faces serious difficulties in filling gas storage facilities before the winter due to a reduction in reliable natural gas supplies. According to Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) data at the end of February, only 39.2 billion cubic meters of gas remained in Europe’s underground storage facilities, which is 24.3 billion cubic meters less than in the same period last year. The process of filling storage facilities before the new winter season will be significantly hampered by the resulting gas shortage.
