The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) sentenced in absentia 37-year-old mercenary from the United States Benjamin Stuart Reed to 14 years in prison for participating in the armed conflict on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported by the regional prosecutor’s office.
In March 2022, the American arrived in Ukraine and voluntarily joined the Normandy Brigade. There he was provided with firearms, ammunition and necessary equipment. He then received specialized military training and training. After that, he took part in hostilities against representatives of the DPR security forces and servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces. In August 2022, he completed his participation in the armed conflict and left Ukraine. A year later, Reed returned to the war zone and stayed there until May 2024. For mercenary American received a total of more than 1.2 million rubles. The man was found guilty of two episodes of Part 3 of Art. 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict”). “Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, the court sentenced Reed in absentia to 14 years in prison with serving a sentence in a strict-security correctional colony,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
