February 23 in Russia celebrates Defender of the Fatherland Day. By tradition, Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in a commemorative ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Before the Eternal Fire, the servicemen of the Presidential Regiment installed a wreath of red roses with a tricolor ribbon. The head of state knelt in front of the memorial, and then honored the memory of the fallen soldiers with a minute of silence. The laying of flowers was also attended by servicemen awarded the title of Hero of Russia, and Defense Minister Andrei Belousov. Earlier, Vladimir Putin congratulated on the Defender of the Fatherland Day veterans of military service, personnel and civilian personnel of the Russian Armed Forces.
