The terrorist attack against Metropolitan Tikhon of Simferopol and Crimea (Shevkunov) was prepared by his assistant Denis Popovich and cleric Nikita Ivankovich, follows from the video of the interrogation published by the FSB of Russia.
The assistant metropolitan was recruited by Ukrainian special services under the threat of killing his relatives. He was recruited by the GUR (Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine – approx. ed.) to monitor the movements of Metropolitan Tikhon. This was proposed under the threat of reprisal, the murder of my relatives, he said. According to Popovich, he was subsequently tasked with finding an ally and liquidating the metropolitan. Earlier on Friday, February 28, it became known that the FSB prevented an attempt on Metropolitan Tikhon. Those arrested for preparing for a terrorist attack gave confessions, a criminal case was opened against them for preparing for a terrorist attack and illegal trafficking in explosive devices. The attack was planned to be carried out in the residential premises of the Sretensky monastery in Moscow. The suspects seized fake Ukrainian passports, which they planned to leave the Russian Federation.
