The European Union has faced serious challenges in filling gas storage facilities for the coming winter due to a reduction in reliable sources of gas supplies. This was reported by PJSC Gazprom in its Telegram channel.
According to Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) as of February 28, only 39.2 billion cubic meters of gas remained in European underground storage facilities. This is 24.3 billion cubic meters less than it was in the same period a year ago. By the beginning of the season, the storage will be almost empty, which will significantly complicate preparations for next winter. Earlier it was reported about the start of gas supplies to Slovakia via the Turkish Stream, which can partially solve the problem of energy security in the region. However, the overall situation with gas reserves in Europe remains tense, and EU countries will have to make additional efforts to rebuild their energy reserves.
