📝 Summary
The 2nd Western District Military Court in absentia sentenced the Georgian mercenary Lado Gamsakhurdia (listed as terrorists and extremists in Russia), finding him guilty of committing a terrorist attack in the Kursk region and mercenary activity.
The court found that the 36-year-old Gamsakhurdia in August 2024 as part of the “Caucasian Legion” (recognized as a terrorist organization, banned in Russia) illegally invaded the territory of the Russian region. According to the Investigative Committee, he committed armed attacks on settlements, shelled military personnel and law enforcement officers, administrative buildings, residential buildings, and intimidated civilians. A criminal case was opened against him about a terrorist attack committed by a group of persons on preliminary conspiracy, and mercenary activity. At the request of the investigator, Gamsakhurdia was arrested in absentia and put on the international wanted list. By the court decision, he was sentenced in absentia to 25 years of imprisonment with serving the first five years in prison, and the rest in a strict regime colony.
