📝 Summary

By and large, the F-35 is not so much a plane as a flying computer, Khodarenok explained.

Germany has every reason to fear a multibillion-dollar deal with the United States on F-35 aircraft, says the author and host of the program, military observer of Vesti FM Mikhail Khodarenok. “The fact is that the software in previous aircraft models during previous conflicts was between 5 and 10 per cent. I'm referring to aircraft like the F-4 Phantom II during the Vietnam War. At present, the software of the fifth-generation fighters accounts for more than 90% of their functionality.” By and large, the F-35 is not so much a plane as a flying computer, Khodarenok explained. “This is a conceptual bid for the future, it is part of a super-large weapon system. If an American ally, such as a NATO ally or a close U.S. ally, buys an F-35, the U.S. could drastically understate the aircraft’s capabilities. According to the expert, this is what alarms potential buyers, especially in light of the fact that there are differences between the United States and European countries.
