In the ice cave build a museum of permafrost

An unusual museum will appear in Salekhard. Under the historical and architectural complex Obdorsky Ostrog is the reconstruction of the permafrost. The ice cave of 600 square meters was equipped in the 30s of the last century for the needs of a fish cannery. Now the historic industrial site will become a local landmark. Lala Hasanova has already been there. The permafrost under the Obdorsk outpost was dug up in 1937. Interestingly, there was no information about what the snow maze looked like. I mean, no charts, no documents. Nothing. Therefore, one of the miracles of Salekhard today is restored solely by the memories of eyewitnesses. It is difficult to get lost in an underground maze – 480 squares. But what: all the corridors are dotted with diamond shine. This treasury served as an ordinary refrigerator, where fish, berries and other provisions were stored on an industrial scale, but this is in the last century. Today, a museum of permafrost is being built here. Is it possible to assume that today some equator has already been completed and there is nothing left before the discovery? - Well, I'll put it this way, now the soil is selected for work inside the permafrost, well, about 70 percent. That is, we plan to complete sometime in March, that is, to reach full zero on the ground, says Alexander Litvinov, director of regional construction for Salekhard. Designers equipped at the time two entrances to ensure the natural circulation of air, and in the dungeon always reigned cold. Years later, one of the entrances was covered with sand, filled with water, and the gate turned into a kind of “monolith”. Forcing modern builders to scratch their heads. “The biggest challenge was that we were on a steep slope. That is, if you understand, 12 meters above us. To maintain the slope, it was necessary to hold an event to strengthen this slope, explains Alexander Litvinov, director of regional construction for Salekhard. The object is specific, unstable, and therefore 20 thermal stabilizers have already been installed along the perimeter to maintain the soil in a frozen state. Inside the cave, which is 13 meters deep, will also install special equipment and a temperature monitoring system. “Well, I’m not afraid to say, it has no analogues. There will be ice sculptures, there will be scenery of certain moving objects. It will be such an interesting tourist destination. By the way, when we first came here two years ago, there were also boxes. That, of course, not from the 30s, it was already the 80s, but nevertheless, it is also an interesting echo of history, – said the head of Salekhard Alexei Titovsky. Echoes of history are collected with great pleasure by workers. What a meter deep is a find. A place that resembles the cold space where the stars sparkle. The big discovery is coming.
