“Inspired by the carpet”: the Museum of Oriental Art at VDNKh presents an exhibition

"Carpet Inspired." On the eve of March 8, the Museum of Oriental Arts at VDNKh opens an exhibition about the Dagestani fishing, the traditions of which are preserved by women. The restorer of the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts named after Gamzatova in his spare time, together with hereditary carpetmakers, revives traditions, uses wool processed only with natural dyes. “When we began reviving the carpet, the question became that natural dyeing should also be revived. Everything you see is stained with herbs, like in the old days. This is a prototype of a big machine. This machine weaves a pile carpet, i.e. it is a knotted weaving, says the restorer of carpets and carpet products of the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts named after P. S. Gamzatova Jamil Azialov. The most important thing in the carpet is its basis, when they began to stretch it in the old days in the house was a holiday. Several women gathered behind one machine. Their families and neighbors were invited to taste the national dishes and observe the process. At the exhibition you can see the works of masters of the XIX century: in some paradise gardens, in others dragons. “Amazing in beauty, in design. These are very rare things that are found only in Dagestan. Kilim, which reached 5 meters in length and 1.5 meters in width and which hung, not as we see in the exhibition vertically, they broadcast along the wall. They simultaneously closed 2-3 walls, said Aishat Magomedov, curator of the exhibition, deputy director of the Gamzatova Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts. This woven without pile, created a century later by a Soviet carpet weaver. Using dry sedge. Ecologically and painstakingly - dry sedge had to be thrown into boiling water, and start weaving no later than, after 10 minutes - the grass froze and became beyond the control of creativity, which inspired more than one generation of masters of the brush. “Artists who came to Dagestan to learn the culture of our people, very often captured the work of carpet-makers as a bright and interesting part of the national culture, so this is an opportunity to show the history of Dagestani fine arts,” says Salikhat Gamzatova, director of the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts. “The main task of the Museum of Oriental Arts is to show all the diversity, all the richness, the amazing beauty of local cultures: the peoples, the people who live in this country,” said Alexander Sedov, Director General of the State Museum of Oriental Arts. “Inspired by the Carpet” is a collection of 108 works, including contemporary female-only interpretations created by today’s masters.
