The prosecutor’s office of the North Kazakhstan region blocked the accounts of some Russians who moved to the republic, as part of a criminal case, the KazTAG news agency reported. This circumstance was complained by the participants of the chat called “Arrest of accounts”, where they discuss their problems mainly relocants from Russia. The press service of the Prosecutor’s Office of the North Kazakhstan region confirmed the information about the blocking of accounts and explained that certain restrictive measures were taken to bank card accounts in the framework of the criminal case. The department stressed that after the inspection, the restrictions will be lifted. However, the details of the criminal case, the prosecutors of the region did not disclose. There are about 200 people in the Arrest of Accounts chat and, as KazTAG points out, there are also citizens of Kazakhstan among those who have faced arrests of accounts. In one of the messages, chat participants mention that the Petropavlovsk police department informed them that “the problem concerns about two thousand people.” Users suggest that the criminal case may be related to droppers and illegal transactions with cryptocurrency, with the majority of those who have been blocked accounts, can proceed in the case as witnesses. At the end of February, a criminal case was opened in the West Kazakhstan region against two bank employees who opened an account for a Ukrainian citizen who did not visit the country. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan specified that citizens who suffered from fraudsters transferred funds to this account, and the total damage was estimated at 1 million tenge, which is about 2 thousand US dollars.
