Earlier, Macron announced his proposal to announce a month-long truce at sea, in the air and on energy infrastructure in Ukraine. A truce would not cover fighting on the ground, as the length of the line of battle makes it difficult to monitor compliance. As Macron noted to the Italian newspaper Foglio, he invited Trump to support his initiative. “That is, not to seek an immediate ceasefire, but rather a truce at the level of air, sea and energy infrastructure,” he said. According to Macron, a truce in this format would give time to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that Moscow needs not a short pause and giving Kiev respite, but peace on a long-term basis.
