📝 Summary

French President Emmanuel Macron spoke about a joint plan with British Prime Minister Kir Starmer to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, which, in particular, suggests the possibility of a temporary truce.

Macron in an interview with Le Figaro expressed doubts about the effectiveness of the truce in the conflict zone, which can be agreed by the United States and Russia. According to the French leader, it will be difficult to monitor compliance with the terms of a full ceasefire. Instead, Macron and Starmer proposed a "ceasefire in the air, at sea and on energy infrastructure," which would see a one-month cessation of hostilities. After that, the second stage will begin, under which, in the case of a sustainable ceasefire, peacekeepers can be sent to Ukraine. At the same time, the French president stressed that there will be no European troops on Ukrainian territory in the coming weeks. “The question is how do we use this time to try to achieve an acceptable truce, with talks that will take weeks and then, after the peace is signed, with the deployment of troops,” he said. Macron also expressed confidence in the possible de-escalation of tensions between US President Donald Trump and the head of the Kiev regime, Volodymyr Zelensky. The American leader previously accused the Ukrainian politician of unwillingness to conclude a truce and demanded that he agree to a ceasefire. Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, after the summit of Western countries in London, called for preparations for a possible ceasefire in the Ukrainian conflict zone.
