MAMT premieres "Andre Chenier"

Love and art in the chaos of the revolution – this is how director Alexander Titel characterizes his new production. In the Musical Theatre of Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko premiere of the opera "Andre Chenier". The creation of Umberto Giordano for the first time put on the Moscow stage. The main opera by Umberto Giordano on the Moscow stage for the first time. “The fate of the poet Chenier, who was completely innocently executed. He welcomed the revolution at the beginning of its path, wrote articles, poems and advocated the triumph of these amazing ideas of the revolution, which still warm us all – freedom, equality, brotherhood, says the artistic director of the opera troupe and chief director of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre Alexander Titel. “Down with this abomination from my body,” exclaims servant Gerard, tearing off the livery. Powerful melodic contrasts and extreme drama are features of verist opera. The composer immerses listeners in the historical context, weaves motifs of revolutionary songs into the musical fabric of the opera. Decorations in red and black tones reproduce the image of the guillotine. The iron plate slowly descends on all the heroes. My character is very transformed from the beginning to the end of the opera. In principle, the story does not pass much time. Only four years pass. The opera begins before the revolution, and ends already in time, in the midst. The revolution took place and this revolutionary wave covers her as a former aristocrat, says Elena Guseva, soloist of the opera troupe of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre. The performers mastered the technique of "recitar cantando" - translated from Italian - melodized recitative. The conductor-director is Italian Pietro Mazzetti. I have heard this opera in La Scala and on other European stages. The hardest part is pure Italian pronunciation. In Russian artists, I was particularly struck by the tenacity and beauty of the voices. They listened to me, a native speaker, and literally got infected with Italian culture, says conductor (Italy) Pietro Mazzetti. Before the audience is the tragedy of a creator lost in the chaos of the revolution. Andre Chenier, according to the director of the production, is an artist responsible for the present and future of the world.
