In recent years, art historians say, there has been a tendency in Russia to introduce private collections to the public. “Many collections, especially when assembled with knowledge, when assembled according to a certain principle, can sometimes replace even museum collections. And therefore, we can appreciate what a big deal private collectors are doing today, explained Svetlana Chetverikova, director of the Oryol Museum of Fine Arts. In the exhibition hall "Spassky-Lutovinov" artists of different eras met. Christian and historical plots predominate here, but we sometimes see familiar faces in them. Artists often left historical greetings to us, their descendants. For example, in Repin’s painting Nikolai Mirlikiysky saves three innocently convicted people from death. In the images of these most convicts we see famous writers, contemporaries of Repin: Merezhkovsky and Yasinsky. Creative and spiritual quests of masters are the red thread of the exhibition. Famous artists were witnesses and authors of a complex process of birth of a new artistic style, which cannot be confused with any other.
