📝 Summary

Today, Russia ranks first in the world in terms of the development of the in situ bioprinting industry, that is, directly on the patient. This was stated on the air of the TV channel "Russia 24" by the Director of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering of NUST MISIS, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Fedor Senates.

Unlike in vitro bioprinting, that is, outside the body, it is quite difficult to reproduce organs immediately on a person because of its relief and constant movement. Russian engineers have created a bioprinter with a robotic manipulator that can adapt to the patient’s breathing, as well as determine the boundaries for 3D printing the organ with the help of artificial intelligence, said the Senate. “It is in the field of robotic printing that a very important first step has been taken. We call it in situ bioprinting, which means on-site. We can say exactly where Russia is in the first place. This is in the field of robotic bioprinting directly on the patient. We have been able to move forward in this year and a half. This is probably the first robotic bioprinter in the world, which is already available for commercial order. We have already installed such printers for our colleagues and partners, the scientist said. The Senate also noted that for the development of bioprinting in Russia, it is necessary to stimulate federal programs for the production of necessary materials.
