“The condition of Pope Francis remains critical, so as was announced yesterday, the Pope is not out of danger.” <...> "Today's blood tests also revealed thrombocytopenia associated with anemia, which required a blood transfusion," the statement said. The press service also reported that the Pope needed high-flow oxygen therapy due to a protracted asthmatic respiratory crisis. Pope Francis was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia on February 18 as a result of an exacerbation of prolonged bronchitis. Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi said the pontiff could abdicate if he was unable to perform his duties due to deteriorating health.
