📝 Summary

New additive technologies and the development of the science of new materials make it possible to reach the top in vascular surgery. About this in an exclusive interview in the program "Horizons of the Atom" on the TV channel "Russia 24" said the Director of the Institute of Cluster Oncology of Sechenov University, academician Igor Reshetov.

Transplantation of organs and tissues is one of the urgent problems of modern medicine, and especially vascular surgery. The development of this direction is hampered by the lack of donor material, tissue incompatibility and the lack of suitable artificial prostheses. “As long as vascular surgery exists, so many people are trying to find a way to replace small-diameter vessels. Animal materials, cadaver materials, some synthetic materials were used, but nothing repeated the reliability and stability of the work. And therefore, with a new knowledge of materials science, with new methods of using additive production, we again climb this Everest, said Reshetov. Doctors, engineers, physicists and chemists work together to reach this summit. One of Rosatom’s innovative developments is a biofactory for growing blood vessels. The first, created by scientists about a year ago, the vessel was only two centimeters long, today it is possible to grow up to 10 centimeters. “The number of operations performed daily in the world on vessels of a given diameter that would require this graft is very large. This is a very difficult, I would say ambitious task. In our country, it is possible only in cases of combining the highest level of medicine with the highest level of technology. Therefore, I believe in Rosatom, Reshetov said. Earlier at the Future Technologies Forum, Rosatom head Alexei Likhachev showed the Russian president a rabbit with an implanted blood vessel.
