Mice, rats and rabbits help Russian scientists take a big step in the development of new technologies for the treatment of human diseases. No drug or medical technology will be used on humans before all the necessary research is done, including on a living organism. “Soviet chinchilla rabbits are used in experimental studies, grown in a special nursery, and then transferred to Ivari for various experimental studies,” said Ekaterina Blinova, head of the Department of Fundamental Medicine of the Engineering and Physical Institute of Biomedicine of MEPhI. For the first time, a rabbit received the equivalent of a blood vessel grown in a biofabricator. This is one of the innovative developments of Rosatom. The operation took place in the newest laboratory of regenerative technologies and tissue engineering. “Colleagues gave us a unique prosthesis, which we will test on an animal, in particular, to replace the area of the femoral artery with this prosthesis,” said Blinova. On February 21, at the Future Technologies Forum, Rosatom head Alexei Likhachev showed the Russian president a rabbit with an implanted blood vessel.
