📝 Summary

The first batch of tulips has already been cut and is ready to be sent to the shelves. Experts from the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance carefully inspected the flowers.

In the main greenhouse at this time of year, it's the hot season for taking care of future spring bouquets. In order for tulips to delight the eye with their tenderness and bloom in the vase, they are cut on time and carefully stored. There are many nuances to this process: for example, to obtain perfect flowers, new bulbs are purchased every year. Lydia Stepanova, agronomist: "In this greenhouse, we have planted around 200 thousand tulips. This year we have 6 varieties, new tulips have arrived, and we decided to add them. These are Camellia and Pink Ardor." This year, the tulips arrived at the end of October from the Netherlands. During transportation, they are carefully inspected, counted, and planted. When the plant blooms and strengthens, it is cut. However, the flowers can be at risk. The greatest threat is posed by the Western flower thrips. It is comfortable for them both in greenhouses and on indoor plants. Galina Tyukavkina, head of the quarantine department of the Krasnoyarsk branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "TSOK APK": "The Californian or Western flower thrips cause certain harm to tulips. It leads to rapid wilting and drying of the flowers, consequently, the tulips will quickly lose their commercial appearance." The first task of the specialists of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance is to prevent the spread of this insect. Natalya Chalova, deputy head of the plant quarantine supervision department of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Department of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance: "In anticipation of the Women's Day holiday, the Department conducts annual state control. Based on the results of the examination, a document is issued that officially confirms that the flower cuttings are not infected with thrips." Specialists assure that they have never found the parasite so far.
