According to both sources, the criminal case was opened in March 2024, after which the Zamoskvoretsky court of Moscow at a closed session decided to seize the building. In the summer of 2021, the State Duma adopted a law giving the Prosecutor General’s Office the right to represent Russia in foreign courts. Russia’s foreign ministry has promised “painful retaliation” if the West proceeds with asset confiscation.
