Public outcry caused several similar cases that occurred in different regions of the country. Citizens who waited many years to improve their living conditions, noticed that the certificates were received by Russians “not of Slavic appearance”. Thus, in Bratsk, Irkutsk region, 33 families, including women wearing the hijab, received certificates. The inspection showed the illegality of the actions of officials, a criminal case was initiated under the article on the abuse of official powers, Gazeta.ru reported. In the Khabarovsk Territory, 29 families received certificates, among which were also immigrants from the Union republics who received Russian citizenship. This outraged local residents, the authorities in response threatened dissatisfied with criminal prosecution for inciting ethnic hatred. In Nizhnekamsk, the discontent of citizens was caused by one family with “migrant names”. Residents doubted that the spouses are married and that they have the right to improve living conditions. An inspection has also begun in the city.
