Ambassador-at-large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, senior official of the country in APEC Marat Berdyev said that in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) there is a decrease in the level of Russophobia, which indicates a revision of the position of some Western countries in relation to Russia.
During the APEC Senior Officials Meeting in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea, Berdyev met with representatives of the Republic of Korea, the Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat and other delegations. Among them were some representatives of the Western camp, who are beginning to realize the need for dialogue with Russia based on the search for compromises, not ultimatums, the diplomat told Russian journalists. However, according to Berdyev, this emerging positive trend has yet to take hold. The neoliberal elite, especially on the periphery of the Western bloc, will need to work hard on mistakes and change their clouded consciousness. As an example, he cited the representatives of Australia, Canada and New Zealand, who are still confused about Russia. Nevertheless, Berdyev stressed that the Russophobic wave in APEC is steadily weakening and harming its conductors, not Russia. The Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the Russian side intends to contribute to the formation of an open, dynamic and peaceful Asia-Pacific region. Earlier, the co-founder of the Pink Floyd musical group Roger Waters in an interview with RIA Novosti said that Russophobia is deeply rooted in the politics of Western countries.
