Rzhev and Rzhev district celebrate the 82nd anniversary of liberation from Nazi invaders

“The battle of Rzhev became a symbol of the fortitude and unsurpassed strength of the spirit of our people, their selfless devotion to the Motherland. In this battle, one of the bloodiest in the history of mankind, soldiers and officers of the Red Army steadfastly stood in the way of the enemy, destroyed and chained the huge forces of the enemy, destroyed his plans to make a second attack on Moscow, Igor Rudenya said in his greetings. In the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, declared in the Russian Federation the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland, we remember with special gratitude the feat of defenders and liberators of the Rzhev land, equal to their courage, loyalty to the Motherland and determination in the fight for its sovereign future. The head of the region stressed that today the residents of the city of military glory Rzhev, Rzhevsky district and the entire Tver region honorably continue the outstanding traditions of the generation of winners, bravely fight in the ranks of participants in a special military operation, jointly contribute to the development and strengthening of a strong, great Russia. Solemn events in the Rzhev district began in the morning. According to tradition, the Pokrovsky Old Believer Church held a ceremony of laying flowers to a memorial plaque in honor of the rescue of 248 civilians. During the retreat, the Nazis rounded up the entire surviving population of Rzhev – women, old people and children – and mined the building. But on the morning of March 3, 1943, a detachment of Soviet intelligence officers released the citizens. Flower laying ceremonies were also held at military graves, the memorial complex "Sishka", the stele "City of Military Glory" and the Obelisk to the liberators of Rzhev. One of the centers of celebrations was the Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier. Here, the all-Russian public movement "Volunteers of Victory" officially launched an online quest "Eternal Stars" throughout the country, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. It will allow everyone to learn more about memorable places that keep the history of the Great Patriotic War. Among them is a magnificent monument in Rzhev. In order to participate in the quest, you must log in to the application "Victory 80". Participants will be awarded points depending on the form of acquaintance with a particular memorable place: reading information, answering questions and visiting the monument in person. Summing up the quest is planned in April. Three winners will have the opportunity to attend the Victory Parade on Red Square. To create a special interactive map "Volunteers of Victory" as part of the improvement of military graves and other memorial sites collected and transmitted the necessary information for verification of these memorable places. “Every one of us, every family has been touched by war, and we must not forget that. We sincerely invite everyone to take part in the online quest – because this is a great opportunity to touch the history of our country, said Artemy Kiselev, Deputy Executive Director of the All-Russian Public Movement “Volunteers of Victory”. "Victory Volunteers" laid flowers and built a large star near the Rzhevsky memorial to the Soviet soldier - a symbol of a large-scale historical quest. “I have been in the volunteer movement for about three years. Today is a very important date. I consider it my duty as a patriot of my country to be here. We have our own values – responsibility, team, love for the country and pride in the Great Victory. These qualities should be possessed by every volunteer. The guys are glad to join us, said the regional head of the Moscow branch of the all-Russian public movement “Volunteers of Victory” Victoria Bondareva. "Victory Volunteers" are engaged in the preservation of historical memory, conduct patriotic actions, help veterans of the Great Patriotic War, soldiers of a special military operation, and also are engaged in the improvement of memorial sites. To date, the movement has about a million activists. To the 82nd anniversary of the liberation of Rzhev and Rzhevsky district from the Nazi invaders, a cultural program was timed at city venues. Thus, the Museum of the History of Architecture of Rzhev organized a military-historical reconstruction "Victory March". In the Palace of Culture of the city of Rzhev at 15.00 will be a festive program "Remember." We will never forget! with the participation of creative teams and soloists of the municipality. And in DSI No2 named after A.G. Rozum at 17.30 there will be a concert of students of the departments of choreographic, musical and theatrical arts "Rzhev liberated". Rzhev was under occupation from October 14, 1941. During the occupation regime, residents were forcibly taken to concentration camps and forced labor in Germany. In the city, industrial enterprises, educational, medical and children's institutions, two theaters, libraries, rest homes were destroyed. Throughout 1942 there were bloody battles on the approaches to Rzhev. On March 3, 1943, Soviet troops liberated the city from the Nazis in a decisive assault. The role of the Battle of Rzhev in the approach of the Great Victory is invaluable. The liquidation of the Rzhevskoy ledge allowed the Soviet command to strengthen its positions in the Western direction and prepare for further offensive operations. Protracted battles near Rzhev bound and bleeding a significant number of the best enemy formations. This prevented the occupiers from sending combat-ready mechanized and tank divisions to Stalingrad, where Soviet soldiers fought the decisive battle in the Great Patriotic War.
