The building of the former Königsberg exchange - a landmark of Kaliningrad

House with lions. 150 years ago, the Königsberg Stock Exchange was opened. The architect Heinrich Müller built it in the spirit of pseudo-historical eclecticism characteristic of that period. The building became not only the business center of the city, but also cultural - concerts and exhibitions were held here. Today the Kaliningrad Museum of Fine Arts is located here. The biography of the monument was studied by Alexander Perezhogin. Sculptures of lion-shield-holders have decorated the entrance since its construction in 1875. In February, restorers explored the monument, took samples for biochemical analysis. The lions are ready for surgery. During World War II, the building was badly damaged by British airstrikes. Large-scale reconstruction in 1967 turned the building into the Palace of culture of sailors, many remember the soft blue color of its facade. Then there's the era of change. A new chapter in the history of the building is connected with the Museum of Fine Arts. Specialists restored the halls. Much has been lost, but all the more valuable is what has been preserved.
