The Orthodox Christians began the Great Lent. It is the longest in the church calendar and the strictest. Abstinence in food and entertainment will end in 7 weeks, by Easter. It precedes the post of Maslenitsa. On the eve of the national festivities were held all over the country: people asked each other for forgiveness, ate pancakes and celebrated the arrival of spring. To plunge into the atmosphere of the holiday, take part in competitions and, of course, to taste traditional pancakes invited all residents and guests of May. The winter was followed by folk customs. Maslenitsa is one of the brightest holidays celebrated in Slavic culture. On this day it is customary to reconcile and visit each other, as well as sing and dance. Everyone found something to like. Men competed in weightlifting, young men tried their hand at armwrestling, and children competed in accuracy. The most fortunate were awarded prizes. Also, they did not forget about the traditional squirrel fun - tug of war. Here the cohesion and coordinated actions of the team are extremely important. This holiday is an opportunity to preserve and transmit the traditions of ancestors, strengthen family ties, enjoy important moments in life. The holiday was attended by groups of the Maisky House of Culture - "Maychanka", "Radonitsa", "Tradition", People's Cossack Choir, "Cossack", youth group "Happiness". One of the most striking moments is the ritual of burning the stuffed Maslenitsa. People gathered around to see how bright the flames burn and at the same time say goodbye to winter. After Maslenitsa, the Orthodox began Great Lent. This is a time of prayer, abstinence and preparation for the main Christian holiday - Easter.
