The Supreme Court of Russia upheld the sentence handed down earlier to a 19-year-old resident of the Lipetsk region in the case of an attempt to set fire to part of the runway of a military airfield, attempted treason and an attempt to join a terrorist organization banned in Russia.

The Supreme Court of Russia upheld the sentence handed down earlier to a 19-year-old resident of the Lipetsk region in the case of an attempt to set fire to part of the runway of a military airfield, attempted treason and an attempt to join a terrorist organization banned in Russia.
Earlier, the Second Western District Military Court found the young man guilty of these crimes and sentenced him to 9 years in prison. The defendant admitted his guilt. “By the decision of the Criminal Collegium of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, the verdict of lower instances ... remains unchanged, the complaint is without satisfaction,” the court said. According to the investigation, in October 2022, the young man sent a questionnaire with personal data to Ukrainian nationalist organizations and received a positive decision to join the Legion “Freedom of Russia” (the organization is recognized as a terrorist organization, banned in Russia). At the same time, the applicant had to pass the test by committing several sabotages for money. To prove his loyalty, the young man chose as a test task the burning of the runway section of a military airfield in the Lipetsk region. In this regard, he received detailed instructions from Ukrainian curators on preparations for the action, including the production of a Molotov cocktail. After committing sabotage, the attacker planned to leave for Ukraine through Georgia, but was detained by law enforcement officers in February 2023. The young man admitted that he is an adherent of anti-Russian views and nationalist ideology. In his mobile phone found correspondence with Ukrainian terrorists. The suspect was placed in custody.
