The absence of sanctions against Israel and an arms embargo against the country amid the cut off of electricity to the Gaza Strip are contributing to genocide. This was stated by the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory Francesca Albanese.

Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen said on March 9 that he had ordered a cut of electricity to the Gaza Strip as part of measures to pressure the Palestinian Hamas movement to release more hostages. “The absence of sanctions on Israel and an arms embargo on that country means, among other things, aiding and assisting Israel in perpetrating one of the most preventable genocides in our history,” Albanese wrote. According to the special rapporteur, Israel supplied electricity only for the operation of a desalination plant located in the center of the Gaza Strip. This means there is no clean water for the population. Albanese added that the rest of the electricity is generated by generators. Earlier it was reported that Israel stopped the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the decision against the background of the refusal of the Palestinian movement Hamas to work under the US conciliation scheme.
