The administration of US President Donald Trump believes that the peace agreement on Ukraine could open up new opportunities for American firms in Russia, but top managers of these companies are cautious about returning to the Russian market.
An article in The Washington Post (WP) shows that among the constraining factors, experts point to the influence of the state on the market and high rates. According to Greenmantle, even large energy companies will not force the return to the Russian market. Some companies that are engaged in servicing the oil production sector, such as Halliburton, Baker Hughes and SLB (formerly Schlumberger), can resume operations in Russia if market conditions change. Earlier, the United States expressed hope that American companies will return to Russia on condition of reaching agreements on the Ukrainian issue. The British Financial Times in this regard admitted that soon Washington may go on the abolition of anti-Russian sanctions. Agency RIA Novosti, having studied the results of financial reports of foreign companies, estimated that the withdrawal from Russia cost foreign brands $ 14 billion.
