According to analysts, the production of platinum in Russia will be 686,000 ounces, write “Vedomosti” with reference to the report. Overall, global metal production is expected to reach 5.5 million ounces this year, down 5% from 2024. The majority will be in South Africa, where they plan to produce 3.9 million ounces, which is 6% less than in 2024. North America will produce 15 percent less than last year, about 216,000 ounces. The share of the remaining countries will be approximately 191,000 ounces. Separate data in the report are given for two countries: Zimbabwe and Russia. The first promises production at last year’s level – 514,000 ounces, the second – 686,000 ounces, which will mean a one percent increase compared to the figure of 2024. “Although nearly 1.5 million ounces of platinum will enter the global market this year from recycling. This is 1% more than a year earlier, according to WPIC data, Vedomosti added. The newspaper clarifies that in 2025, global demand for platinum will decrease by 5% to 7.85 million ounces. This will happen against the background of a difficult situation in the world economy and the beginning of tariff wars. In general, Vedomosti notes a decrease in the popularity of platinum in all industries where it is now actively involved. Earlier it was reported about the plans of the largest Russian producer of platinum, Norilsk Nickel, to build a plant for the production of this metal in Bahrain.
