About flowers, porcelain, fish and shellfish - new exhibitions in the museum

The keeper of the natural history collection, Nina Korableva, begins the story of flowers in art with a Swedish naturalist, whose name is named after a plant that can often be found on Kolyma - Linnea North. Next to herbarium samples - reproductions of engravings from the atlas "Flora of Russia" of the 18th century - and this is already high art. And then porcelain. “This is porcelain from a Czech factory. This is the USSR. And here you can notice that ours slightly modified the Meissen bouquet. They added a tulip instead of a terry poppy, said Nina Korableva, curator of the IOCM natural history collection. The Meissen bouquet is a kind of decor. It was developed by the masters of the Meissen porcelain factory in Germany three hundred years ago. Flowers have always inspired artists. As an example – still life of Magadan painter Vladimir Myagkov Sr. Or these herbarium compositions. The compiler is Alexandra Leonov, chief researcher of the local history museum. The review of the floral palette ends with postcards, stamps, pocket calendars. These are flowers in popular culture. In the next room surprises “Wild underwater world”. The prickly crab, a Magadan delicacy, is not a crab or crab. Next to crustaceans are other organisms that illustrate the biological diversity of the waters of the Taui Bay of the Sea of Okhotsk. And here the visitor is also waiting for many discoveries. For example, the story of the well-known stone flounder. “Stellar flounder of more than 10 species of flounder and halibut that live here in the Sea of Okhotsk. She is the only one who lies on her right side and looks to the left. That is, absolutely all other flounders lie on the opposite side and, accordingly, look to the right, said Ekaterina Yusupova, senior researcher at the IOCM Exposition and Research Department. Immersion in the wild underwater world helps not only exhibits. Unique surveys of the depths of the Sea of Okhotsk with museum workers shared divers from Magadan, Moscow and Kazakhstan. The rich underwater world of Taui Bay attracts divers from all over the country to Magadan. The exhibition allows you to lower them to the bottom and admire the beauty of the Sea of Okhotsk. The exhibitions will be open to visitors until the end of the year.
