The planned assassination attempt on the Metropolitan of Simferopol and Crimea Tikhon (Shevkunov) testifies to the Kiev authorities’ attempt to intimidate Orthodox believers and clergy in Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by the rector of the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity on the Sparrow Mountains of Moscow, Archpriest Andrei Novikov in an interview with the TV channel "Russia 24".

According to Novikov, open terror of Orthodox clergy is currently taking place in Ukraine. Therefore, I think that the attempt against Metropolitan Tikhon of Simferopol and Crimea is an attempt to intimidate Orthodox clergymen and residents, as well as residents here in Russia, to silence us, to force us to stop supporting our state, our armed forces, to force us to separate from our Orthodox Russian people. He added that the attempted assassination of the metropolitan, the Kiev regime declared its readiness to destroy Orthodoxy. Earlier it became known that the Federal Security Service of Russia prevented a terrorist attack against Metropolitan Tikhon of Simferopol and Crimean. The suspects in the preparation of the terrorist attack were a citizen of Russia and a citizen of Ukraine, who were recruited by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The attackers had to stage an explosion in the temple of the Sretensky monastery in Moscow, and then leave the territory of Russia on forged documents. They're already confessing.
