Arkhangelsk seaport continues to develop as the most important transport hub of Russia

The geography of coastal transportation from the Arkhangelsk seaport covers almost all the seas of the Northern Basin of the European part of Russia - these are the coasts of the White, Barents, Kara and Laptev Sea. Delivery of goods is carried out to the archipelago of New Land, Franz Josef land. Last year, the Arctic Express program carried out five flights to and from China. More than 13,500 containers were transported. Tsetsen Goryaev, General Director of the Arkhangelsk Sea Port: We plan to keep the transshipment volumes at the level of 1 million tons for 2025. Traditionally, half of this volume will be cargoes sent to cabotage – these are classic cargoes, general, bulk cargoes.” Arkhangelsk port plans to double the number of ship calls, which will increase the volume of shipped containers twice. For this purpose, modernization and repair of cargo platforms are underway. Alexander Tsybulsky, Governor of the Arkhangelsk region: “Sea multimodal transportation between the People’s Republic of China and Arkhangelsk is actively developing.” In the summer, Arkhangelsk Commercial Sea Port will once again host the vessels of our Chinese partners. At the same time, the number of ship calls on the Chinese container line is planned to double compared to last year’s navigation.” Today we can say that the Arkhangelsk transport hub has become an important part of the Arctic transport system of Russia. The development of the Northern Sea Route has helped. Over the past four years, the volume of sea and river traffic through the port of Arkhangelsk has exceeded five million tons. In addition, the closure of access for domestic producers of mineral fertilizers to the Baltic ports allowed our harbor to become an alternative point for transshipment of raw materials to Africa, Asia and South America. Evgenia Shelyuk, Minister of Economic Development and Industry of the Arkhangelsk Region: “Confirmation of the importance of the Arkhangelsk transport hub for the Government of the Russian Federation is the comprehensive plan for the development of the Arkhangelsk transport hub, which includes both measures related to the development of the existing transport and engineering infrastructure, and the implementation of completely new projects.” The key project is the construction of a deep-water port area, which will provide year-round access to the World Ocean and the ability to receive ships with a displacement of up to 75 thousand tons.
