The Bank of Russia stressed that there are no such plans. “The use of plastic banknotes is justified primarily in countries in humid tropical climates, since plastic does not get wet and does not absorb dirt,” the Central Bank explained. Paper banknotes are better than plastic banknotes, withstand low, including negative temperatures. In addition, there are different security complexes of banknotes made on paper and plastic bases. “Plastics cannot include such elements as a watermark, security thread and protective fibers, which are traditionally signs of the authenticity of Bank of Russia banknotes,” the regulator said. The Central Bank noted that among the Russian banknotes there are examples of polymer money. In particular, this is a commemorative banknote dedicated to the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Earlier, Bloomberg recognized the ruble as the best national currency in the world market.
