The Metropolitan police completed the investigation of the criminal case of theft of billions in the Shipbuilding Bank (SB-Bank), which was conducted since January 2018.
As it became known to Kommersant, the trial will take place in absentia, since the defendants – co-owner of the credit institution Andrei Vovchenko and ex-banker Stepan Melkonov – a few years ago left for Canada. Their lawyers have already read the materials of the criminal case. The investigation found that the organizer of fictitious transactions for the alienation of assets of the credit institution on the eve of the revocation of his license in 2015 was Andrei Vovchenko. At the same time, the debt to depositors from the SB-Bank amounted to more than 37 billion rubles. All contracts of assignment of claims in February 2015 was concluded by Mr. Vovchenko. According to the publication, just a year before the collapse, the Shipbuilding Bank was among the hundred largest banks in Russia in terms of net assets, and among the bank’s clients were industrial and trading companies, some media and travel firms. For example, the bank’s clients were SU-155 Group of Companies, the Association of Aviation Freight Operators, OJSC “Tsentrgazneft”, “Kamedi Club Production”, Expert magazine, Magnolia stores and others. Suffered from the actions of the defendants in the case and the publishing house "Rosmen", specializing in the release of children's literature.
