Beirut hosts farewell ceremony for ex-Hezbollah leader Nasrallah

The ceremony will be attended by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The farewell ceremony takes place at the Camille Chamoun Sports City sports stadium, and outside it there are screens and additional seats for those who did not have time to take seats in the stands. On the eve of the funeral, Hezbollah spokesman Ali Daamush said that about 800 people from 65 countries and thousands of activists from around the world will come to say goodbye to the former leader of the movement. The official slogan of the ex-Hezbollah leader’s farewell was “We are faithful to the covenant.” On the day of farewell, roads were closed in the funeral area, and Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport limited its operations for four hours. The current leader of the movement, Naim Qassem, is expected to speak at the farewell ceremony. Hassan Nasrallah was killed on September 27, 2024, during an Israeli airstrike on Hezbollah’s main operations center underground. He was the leader of the movement for 32 years and one of its founders. Israel has admitted involvement in Nasrallah’s murder. Nasrallah was originally buried in secret because the situation in Lebanon did not allow for a public ceremony.
