Vice-President Badra Gunba was elected president of Abkhazia, gaining 54.73% of the votes following the results of the second round of elections, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic Dmitry Marchand said.

For his opponent Adgur Ardzinba, 41.54% of Abkhazians voted. Thus, 54,954 people voted for Gunba, 41,708 for Ardzinba. “Badra Gunba received the largest number of votes in the repeated elections and was elected president of Abkhazia,” Marchand said. The CEC also reported that violations were recorded during the elections, but they, according to the department, did not affect the result. There were 143,651 people on the voting lists, and 100,412 voters voted after the turnout. 2,065 people voted against all of them, and another 1,687 ballots were declared invalid. The polling stations closed yesterday at 20:00.
