Expert Stolpovsky: there are about 6 thousand radicals from Central Asia in the SAR

📝 Summary

About 6 thousand immigrants from Central Asian countries are in terrorist groups on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR). About this in an interview with "Russia 24" military expert Oleg Stolpovsky.

According to him, militants from the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia) joined the radicals in the Middle East first. “According to my calculations, during the entire period of the civil confrontation in Syria, Central Asians amounted to about 5-6 thousand people.” The largest number was represented by immigrants from Uzbekistan, that is, persons of Uzbek nationality. I would say the number is about 1,800 people. In second place I would put immigrants from Tajikistan, according to my estimates, 1600 people, said Stolpovsky. Earlier in the Syrian provinces of Latakia, Tartus and As-Suwayda in Syria, Alawite Muslims and Christians staged an uprising against militants of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group (recognized as a terrorist and banned in Russia). The reason for the rallies was the mass repression that militants staged against representatives of religious minorities. Soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces provided shelter to Syrian civilians fleeing persecution. Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov said that violence in the SAR should be excluded as soon as possible.
